The APU usually draws air through a dedicated inlet near the tail, where the unit is housed. The exact location depends on the aircraft type. Which aircraft did you have in mind?
Well, I only fly domestic, so 737/A32X are first, but mainly any aircraft that has no visible inlet in semi-direct alignment with the visible exhaust.

#2 Does the flying and operations of Civilian aircraft differ from that of military aircraft ,are they similar in any way?
